In a world where the good don't always triumph over the evil, Ek Villain portrays a story of three people, Jagdish (Jackie Shroff), Arjun Singh (Arjun Rampal) and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Rao (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). These three men have been rivals from the time they were young children. Jagdish is a powerful man, who can get his hands on anything he wants. Arjun Singh is an ambitious, intelligent man who believes that with power one can change their life. And then there is Chhatrapati Sambhaji Rao - an honest and loyal person to his friends and family. As the three grown up they are in completely different professions. Jagdish is a very rich gangster with many powerful men in his pocket. Arjun Singh is a lawyer who believes that through law, he can bring about changes in society. He devotes his life to serving the underprivileged. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Rao has dedicated his life to protecting the weak and bringing down corruption in society. An incident sparks off a lot of things - where Jagdish demands that Arjun Singh should pay him compensation for putting him in jail, which Arjun Singh refuses to do so, putting them on opposite sides of the fence. And as if it is not enough, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Rao's sister Priya (Adah Sharma) falls in love with Arjun Singh, which makes things even more complicated. In the fight between the three, each of them has a very different agenda - Jagdish wants to kill Chhatrapati Sambhaji Rao and frame Arjun Singh for it, Arjun wants to bring down Jagdish and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Rao wants to put Jagdish behind bars. A heated battle ensues between the three men, who cannot understand what they have in common. They only know that they will stop at nothing till their mission is fulfilled. It is about three young men, who are brought up to be enemies, but are forced to learn to become friends when they are faced with bad decisions in their lives. The film was shot in various places of the country including Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur and Pune. The songs were shot at Film City in Mumbai, which was the first time that the songs were shot outside India. "Ek Villain" received mixed reviews from critics worldwide. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a rating of 41% based on reviews from 47 critics. The site's consensus states: "Ek Villain is well-made but lacks action to make it an interesting watch." On Metacritic, the film has a rating of 56% based on reviews from 13 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".
